TORONTO, Ontario, August 4th, 2021

One Ontario is pleased to announce that the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB) has joined the One Ontario coalition as a Champion Sponsor.

TRREB believes that the efforts of One Ontario to streamline the development approvals process will result in more ownership and more rental housing.

TRREB supports One Ontario as they believe that streamlining and modernizing the development approvals process is necessary and will lead to an increase in housing supply within the greater Toronto area. TRREB also believes that supply constraints and rising demand are leading to affordability issues within the GTA and this is not sustainable long term. TRREB wants to ensure that the GTA remains a vibrant city with a well balanced mix of housing that includes sustainable affordable housing, while ensuring adequate supply and demand necessary to meet the goals of their members.

“All levels of government – most recently the federal Minister of Finance – have acknowledged that long term housing affordability in Canada, including the GTA, will be predicated on the ability to bring more supply on line. With the federal, provincial, and municipal governments on the same page, we need to see a coordinated and collaborative effort to streamline the development approvals process to pave the way for more ownership and rental housing,” said TRREB CEO John DiMichele.

“There is very significant upward pressure on the housing prices in the GTA,” said Arash Shahi, TRREB member and CEO of AECO Innovation Lab “Affordability is definitely a challenge not just in GTA but across Ontario. Adding TRREB to the collective One Ontario voice advocating for a streamlined development process is key to achieving long term sustainable supply for Toronto realtors, and housing affordability for the province as a whole.”
