TORONTO, Ontario, January 5th, 2021

AECO Innovation Lab is pleased to welcome the newly-formed Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) as a supporter of the One Ontario initiative and member of the coalition.

The HCRA sees data-driven decision making as key to their success and supports the One Ontario program and its goal of data harmonization.

HCRA is Ontario’s new regulator of home builders and vendors, dedicated to consumer protection. As a new organization they understand the value that data brings to identifying challenges and improving consistency across the sector, curtailing unethical and illegal builders and fostering a fair marketplace. They see data-driven decision making as key to their success and support the One Ontario program and its goal of data harmonization.

As a regulatory authority dedicated to consumer protection, the HCRA welcomes new ideas that create opportunities for streamlining while ensuring that new home construction in Ontario continues to meet the high standards expected of HCRA licensees. They acknowledge that each municipality has expectations and requirements for building projects in their communities and that permitting structures have been developed to reflect the communities they serve. To that end, they support the One Ontario proposal to further facilitate approvals of projects proposed by their licensees.

About the Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA)

The Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) is responsible for regulating and licensing the people and companies who build and sell new homes in the province of Ontario. In addition to licensing, the HCRA provides educational information for consumers on their home buying journey, and manages the Ontario Builder Directory (OBD) – the official source of background information about each of Ontario’s more than 5,000 new home builders and vendors. An independent regulator, the HCRA takes over the licensing function from Tarion. To learn more visit – www.hcraontario.ca
