TORONTO, Ontario, December 17th, 2020

AECO Innovation Lab is delighted to recognize Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA) as the latest organization to join the One Ontario coalition.

Most industrial, commercial and industrial (ICI) general contractors agree that a unified data exchange framework would harmonize and streamline the entire development approval process.

OGCA is the leading advocate and service provider to their members, fostering an improved general contracting environment. Most industrial, commercial and industrial (ICI) general contractors agree that a unified data exchange framework would harmonize and streamline the entire development approval process. It would significantly reduce costs by eliminating redundant customization in every municipality and likely boost industry productivity. OGCA believes that One Ontario’s initiative to streamline the development approval process will result in faster construction and bring value to their members.

According to the World Bank, Canada currently ranks 64 out of 190 countries on development approval efficiency for routine building projects. If Ontario continues to fall behind on World Bank standards, this could lead to potential international investors avoiding Ontario. OGCA believes that the One Ontario program will help improve our ranking and ensure Ontario remains a competitive place for investment.

OGCA has been working with One Ontario to provide stakeholder input from constructors, participate in this collaboration, and possibly connect One Ontario to pilot projects. As constructors, they highly encourage municipalities to consider taking steps to find efficiencies in the permitting process.
