TORONTO, Ontario, May 17th, 2021

AECO Innovation Lab is very pleased to welcome the Town of Oakville as the latest municipality to join the One Ontario coalition to streamline the development application approval process.

The Town of Oakville strongly supports the initiative as they believe One Ontario will amplify the value of their existing investments in digitization and e-permitting systems, and that streamlining the development application approval process will significantly reduce costs by eliminating overlap, duplication and redundant customizations.

Oakville is the largest town in Ontario, and a thriving municipality that balances the advantages of an urban centre with small-town ambiance. The Town supports investment in digital infrastructure that will help all Ontario municipalities achieve their digitization goals, and future-proof service delivery processes against the next emergency situation.

The Town of Oakville has already taken significant steps to streamline their internal review processes, but acknowledges that addressing permitting challenges requires remarkably close co-operation and management with other stakeholders including developers, builders, planners, design professionals and other applicable law organizations. They believe that One Ontario will amplify the value of their existing investments in digitization and e-permitting systems, and therefore strongly support the initiative.

They agree that a unified data exchange framework would harmonize and streamline the entire development approval process. Streamlining would significantly reduce costs by eliminating overlap, duplication and redundant customizations, and will help the municipality to realize much-needed revenues through taxes, levies, etc, as projects move more quickly from conceptual planning and design to construction and occupancy. It will also help improve affordability of the end product for their citizens.

Oakville appreciates the opportunity to provide the provincial government with their recommendations and looks forward to building a better Ontario with partners in the development and construction industry, and the Province.
